Google Ads ROI calculator for orthodontic and dental practices
This calculator turns your Google Ads spend, cost per click and conversion rates into the numbers that matter to a practice: cost per inquiry, cost per new start and production per dollar spent. With the example values below, $3,000 a month produces about 5.6 new starts, at roughly $533 per start and $9.40 of production for every $1 spent.

What each input means
Where to find each number
Use the last full month, or the last 90 days divided by three.
| Input | What it means | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly ad spend | What you pay Google each month | Google Ads, Campaigns view, Cost column |
| Average cost per click | Spend divided by clicks | Google Ads, Avg. CPC column |
| Clicks that become inquiries | Share of clicks that call or submit a form | Conversions divided by clicks, if tracking counts real inquiries only |
| Inquiry to consultation rate | Share of ad inquiries that book | Call log or practice software, filtered to ad leads |
| Consultation to start rate | Share of consultations that start treatment | Practice management software |
| Average treatment fee | Typical total fee for a full treatment | Fee schedule or average case value |
| Management fee | What you pay an agency or freelancer, if anyone | Your invoice |
How it works
The method
Every figure comes from your own inputs. Formula last checked October 17, 2026.
1. Clicks
Clicks = monthly ad spend ÷ average cost per click.
2. Inquiries, consultations and starts
Inquiries = clicks × click to inquiry rate. Consultations = inquiries × inquiry to consultation rate. Starts = consultations × consultation to start rate.
3. Cost per inquiry and per start
Total cost = ad spend + management fee. Cost per inquiry = total cost ÷ inquiries. Cost per new start = total cost ÷ starts.
4. Production per dollar
Production = starts × average treatment fee. Production per $1 = production ÷ total cost. This is revenue, not profit.
Worked example
One example, calculated in full
Example values only, not benchmarks.
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Clicks | $3,000 ÷ $8 | 375 |
| Inquiries | 375 × 6% | 22.5 |
| Consultations | 22.5 × 50% | 11.25 |
| New starts | 11.25 × 50% | 5.6 |
| Cost per inquiry | $3,000 ÷ 22.5 | $133 |
| Cost per new start | $3,000 ÷ 5.625 | $533 |
| Production | 5.625 × $5,000 | $28,125 |
| Production per $1 | $28,125 ÷ $3,000 | 9.4x |

FAQ
Google Ads ROI calculator FAQ
How does the Google Ads ROI calculator work?
It divides your monthly ad spend by your average cost per click to estimate clicks, then applies your click-to-inquiry, inquiry-to-consultation and consultation-to-start rates. Adding the management fee to ad spend gives the true cost per inquiry and per new start.
Where do I find my cost per click and conversion rates?
Cost per click and clicks are in your Google Ads account. Inquiry and start rates come from your call tracking, forms and practice management records, so the result is only as good as that tracking.
Why include the management fee?
Because it is part of what each new patient costs you. Comparing ad spend alone makes paid search look cheaper than it is.
What should I fix before spending more on ads?
Answer and return calls, and follow up consultations. More clicks only help if inquiries are handled well. See our guide on what to check before you spend on Google Ads.
