SERP snippet preview: see your title and meta description like Google does
Paste a page title, meta description and URL to see a close approximation of your Google result on desktop and mobile, with pixel widths, truncation and keyword checks. Titles wider than about 600 pixels on desktop, and descriptions wider than about 920 pixels, are often cut off. Google sets no official limit and may rewrite either, so use this as a guide, not a guarantee.

What each field means
Where to find each one
Check the live page, not just your SEO plugin.
| Field | What it means | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Page title | The title element Google often uses for the blue headline | SEO plugin, or view page source and search for title |
| Meta description | Summary Google may use for the text under the headline | SEO plugin, or view page source and search for description |
| Page URL | The address shown above the headline | Your browser address bar |
| Focus keyword | The main search you want the page to rank for | Your keyword map or SEO plugin |
How it works
The method
All checks run in your browser. Method last checked October 17, 2026.
1. Width in pixels, not characters
Google truncates by display width, so a title full of wide letters is cut sooner than one with narrow letters. The tool measures your text in Arial, 20 px for titles and 14 px for descriptions, which closely matches Google’s desktop result style.
2. Approximate truncation points
The preview cuts titles at about 600 px on desktop and 520 px on mobile, and descriptions at about 920 px on desktop and 680 px on mobile. These are working estimates used across SEO tools. Google does not publish fixed limits and its layout changes.
3. Keyword and quality checks
The tool checks whether your focus keyword appears in the title, how early, and whether it appears in the description. It also flags all-capital titles and repeated words, which Google’s guidance on title links asks site owners to avoid.
Worked example
One title, checked step by step
Using the example already in the tool.
| Check | Result | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Title width | Under 600 px | Fits on desktop |
| Keyword in title | "Orthodontic SEO" at the start | Keep it there |
| Description width | Under 920 px | Fits on desktop |
| Keyword in description | Present | Google may bold it |
| Repeated words | "SEO" and "orthodontic" repeat once | Acceptable, but do not add more |
Common answers
Typical lengths that fit
Approximate, because widths depend on the letters used.
| Element | Usually fits on desktop | Pixel guide |
|---|---|---|
| Title | About 50 to 60 characters | About 600 px |
| Meta description | About 140 to 160 characters | About 920 px |
| Mobile title | About 45 to 55 characters | About 520 px |
| Mobile description | About 110 to 130 characters | About 680 px |

FAQ
SERP snippet preview tool FAQ
How does the snippet preview work?
It measures your title and description by their approximate display width in pixels, which is how Google truncates them, rather than by character count. Text that runs past the limit is shown with an ellipsis, as it might appear in results.
Will Google always show my title and description?
No. Google may rewrite titles and use a different snippet from the page when it thinks that matches the search better. A clear, accurate title and description make that less likely.
How long should a title or meta description be?
Google does not set a fixed character limit. Keep the most important words at the start so they survive if the text is cut, and use the preview to check how it fits.
Does the focus keyword field affect rankings?
No. It only highlights where the phrase appears in your preview, to help you write naturally for the search you care about.
